JOHN WHITMIRE, 81, is a Democrat from the Houston area and has earned a reputation as one of the most influential members of the Texas Senate. He’s Held his seat for more than 30 years.There have been rumors that Whitmire could make a run for Houston mayor. Though, Whitmire tells Eyewitness News it’s nothing but gossip at this point. “I’m just flattered people are talking about me,” Whitmire said.

“I’m just focused on and honored to be representing this district and the other 30 million wonderful people as best as I can in Austin.” But rumors aside, Whitmire says he’s focused on helping recover from the pandemic and says Texas should put more resources and effort in public health and helping Texans recover from the unprecedented winter storm.
