CARSON, Calif. (KABC) — A pursuit involving the California Highway Patrol ended in downtown Los Angeles Wednesday night after the driver of a suspicious vehicle fled on foot.

The CHP was in pursuit of the driver of a Honda sedan when the driver exited the vehicle and ran into a CVS near 5th and Figueroa streets. The driver then left the store and ran toward a nearby homeless encampment.

Authorities evacuated the homeless encampment as a precaution, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Dozens of packages were found inside the suspect’s vehicle, prompting a bomb squad response.

The bomb squad investigated the packages and determined they were not dangerous. The suspect was arrested and could face charges related to evading police.

The pursuit started in Carson around 7:30 p.m. and ended around 8:15 p.m. in downtown Los Angeles. Traffic in the area was impacted during the incident.
